September is Menorca’s best-kept secret. The coves that overflowed with towels in August fall silent again. The sea still holds all of summer’s warmth, but the light has changed: lower, more golden, almost honey-coloured over the southern cliffs. The pine woods smell of resin, and the juniper trees, twisted by the tramontana wind, cast long shadows across the paths. This is the island at its most profound, the one that reveals itself only to those in no hurry. The moment to lace up a good pair of trainers and discover Menorca the way all important things are discovered: slowly.

A path with centuries of history

The Camí de Cavalls circles the whole of Menorca, some 185 kilometres following the coastline. Its origins go back centuries, to a time when armed horsemen patrolled the shore to watch for enemies arriving by sea. Today those lookouts have given way to walkers, and what was once a defence route is one of the great experiences of an island declared a Biosphere Reserve.

There’s no need to walk all of it. One stretch is enough to understand why people fall in love with it.

The south, from the hotel’s doorstep

The southern stretch that begins by Cala’n Bosch and Son Xoriguer is, for many, the most beautiful of the whole route. And it starts just a few metres from La Quinta Menorca.

The path winds between low cliffs, pine woods and wind-sculpted junipers. First come the sands of Son Saura, wide and serene. Further on, Cala en Turqueta, its water a turquoise that looks almost retouched. And for those who want to go further, Macarella and Macarelleta, two of Menorca’s most famous postcards.

In high summer, these coves fill up. In September, it’s easy to find a corner of your own. Arriving on foot also adds something special: the swim becomes the reward.

How to enjoy it without rushing

The key is choosing your pace. You can walk a short stretch to Son Saura and back, or hike to Turqueta and return by taxi or public transport. It isn’t a race: it’s a walk with stops.

A few tips to make the most of it:

Sunset at the lighthouse

If you still have energy left, the day has one last gift. West of the hotel, the Cap d’Artrutx lighthouse is one of the best viewpoints for watching the sun go down. From here, on clear days, Mallorca appears on the horizon. The sky lights up over the sea, and for a moment everything stands still.

Back to La Quinta

After the walk, your body asks for calm. And La Quinta Menorca knows how to offer it. An adults-only five-star boutique hotel, with colonial-style architecture and surrounded by nature, where every detail is designed for complete rest.

The spa is the perfect place to shake off the kilometres. And dinner at the Son Xoriguer restaurant, led by chef Gregorio Izquierdo, rounds off the day with cuisine rooted in the island’s produce.

September in Menorca isn’t the end of summer. It’s summer at its best: calmer, brighter, more your own.
