Book

August feels like a summer holiday diary. Long days, bare feet and a question that comes back every morning: what shall we do today? In northern Mallorca, the answer comes on its own. It’s in the scent of pine and salt drifting through the window as you wake. In the gentle hush of Pollença Bay, calm as a swimming pool. In the stones the Romans walked on over two thousand years ago, and in the slow flight of a heron over the Albufereta. Between the bays of Pollença and Alcúdia there is history to touch, nature to watch and sea for every taste. And one certainty: here, childhood memories make themselves.

This is a route designed to discover the island at children’s eye level. And for grown-ups to enjoy it just as much.

A Roman city beneath your feet

More than two thousand years ago, in 123 BC, the Romans founded a city here called Pollentia. Today you can wander its remains on the outskirts of Alcúdia: cobbled streets, the foundations of houses, the forum and a small theatre carved into the rock.

For a child, it is much more than a cultural visit. It is a stage for imagining legionaries, merchants and gladiators. A tip: go first thing, while the sun is still gentle. And if curiosity takes hold, the Pollentia museum in the old town completes the story.

There’s a detail worth sharing here: the resort is named after this city. Staying at PortBlue Club Pollentia is, in a way, sleeping in the very landscape the Romans chose.

Walking along the walls

Just steps from the ruins, Alcúdia’s old town still has its medieval walls. You can climb up and walk a stretch along the top, with towers and rooftops at a bird’s-eye view. For little ones, it’s the closest thing to playing castles for real.

If you’re there on a Tuesday or Sunday, the market fills the streets with colour: fruit, crafts, palm-leaf hats and the kind of bustle children remember for years.

The Albufereta: the quietest safari

The resort sits beside the Albufereta, a protected wetland where nature sets the pace. Herons, black-winged stilts and migrating birds appear among the reeds and lagoons.

With a pair of binoculars and a little patience, any walk becomes an expedition. It’s a nature lesson no textbook can hold: learning to look slowly, quietly, and discovering there is always something moving.

The bay by kayak

The waters of Pollença Bay are calm and shallow in many places. Perfect for a first family outing by kayak or paddle board. From the water, the Serra de Tramuntana rises in the background and the coastline looks different.

For the most restless, the resort offers water and sports activities for all ages. Because on holiday, energy needs its space too.

Back home (your summer home)

After every adventure, the resort is base camp. Eighty-five thousand square metres of gardens, pools designed for children and a kids’ entertainment programme that turns afternoons into play.

And while they have fun, grown-ups have their own retreat: the Ocean Spa & Wellness, overlooking the bay, and adults-only areas. Because a good family holiday is one where everyone goes home with a story to tell.

In northern Mallorca, August is lived at children’s eye level. And from there, the island looks enormous.
